Rev. Scott Curtis
Pastor
Rev. Scott Curtis is a graduate of Samford University and Beeson Divinity School with a Bachelor of Arts in Congregational Studies and a Master of Arts in Divinity. He has been engaged in professional ministry since 1997. For the last 6 years, he has served alongside Providence Baptist Church as their pastor and partner in ministry. He has also served as moderator and on numerous committees of the Appomattox Baptist Association. With the Baptist General Association of Virginia, he has served as a member of the Missions Council and the Program Committee that plans the annual meeting of the BGAV. He is currently chair of that committee. Scott is also passionate about missions. During his ministry at Providence, he has led four mission teams on construction mission trips and one international trip to Ghana with the More Than Nets program. He also served as Vice Chair of the Appomattox Long Term Recovery Group after the tornado that devastated part of that county in 2016.
His wife, Kristen, has been his partner in ministry since May of 1997 and her gifts of teaching and administration complement his ministry in innumerable ways. She, too, holds a bachelor’s degree from Samford University in Congregational Studies as well as a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin. He has three children: Morgan (age 14), Cate (age 12), and John (age 9). They are his most important ministry.
Scott’s life is centered around Jesus’ direction in Matthew 28:18-20 “Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age’” (NLT). The heart of Scott’s ministry is making disciples – not just introducing people to Jesus, but walking alongside them as a friend, fellow traveler, and spiritual guide – growing in faith together. That is Scott’s primary mission in life and he is looking forward to joining with Heritage in this new journey of discipleship together.

Shawn grew up in church, right here at Heritage. He left Farmville to attend Liberty University, where he graduated with a degree in Biblical Studies. After graduating from Liberty, Shawn returned to Heritage. While on a youth mission trip, Shawn felt God leading him towards youth ministry. He is continuing to follow God as He leads him into his role as the Youth Director at Heritage.
Shawn met his wife, Mary, while volunteering in the youth ministry at Heritage. Mary was attending Longwood when God called her to volunteer with the Heritage youth group.
Shawn enjoys playing basketball, baseball, and staying active in his free time. He would also like to have a turtle.
