Job Description for Part Time Church Nursery Staff
Principle Function:
Provides for the physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual stimulation and safety of preschool children from birth through 3 years old during adult Bible Study and worship, and possibly additional church functions. The pay for this position is $14 per hour and has no paid vacation or sick leave.
General Qualifications:
1. Be of good moral and Christian character
2. Be at least 18 years of age.
3. Be polite and courteous to all children, parents, and other adults.
4. Speak in a gentle tone of voice.
5. Have stable physical, mental and emotional health.
6. Have knowledge of age appropriate needs of young children.
7. Be able to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities.
8. Be willing to advance personal knowledge of childcare for children through mentoring, seminars, or reading.
9. Be willing to submit to background checks and drug screening.
10. Provide a physician’s report stating current results of good health (immunizations. TB test)
11. Communicate absences in advance in a timely manner, if possible with one week’s notice.
12. Have up to date certification in CPR training for infants and children.
13. Experience in caring for preschoolers from birth through age four.
14. Dependable. Tardiness and excessive absences will result in termination.
15. Willingness to abide by all safety and security policies.
16. Complete a course in the last 3 years of child protection training.
Essential Duties:
1. Arrives at least 15 minutes prior to the service schedule, ready to greet early arrivals.
2. Greet children and parents by name. Make sure they follow check-in procedures.
3. Prior to the children arriving and when the last child leaves, clean and disinfect all toys .
4. Maintain good hand washing hygiene while in the nursery.
5. Wear gloves and follow procedures while changing diapers.
6. Engage and interact with children in organized activities using appropriate music, books, stories, puzzles, art and play activities. When provided, use Bible curriculum.
7. Give the children a snack as per the parents’ instructions.
8. Check and change diapers as necessary and at least 3 times during the session.
9. After the last child leaves, tidy the room, return the toys to their places on the shelves, place bed sheets in the laundry basket, and empty trash cans. Take trash to the cans located outside at the back of the fellowship hall.
10. Adjust the heat and AC and turn off the lights.
11. Complete a report of your time worked and place it on the secretary’s desk in the church office.
12. Contact by phone the nursery coordinator about any concerns or needs.
